In our Geometry Math unit this term students were introduced to various First Nation traditional art forms through Wampum Belts, birch biiting, symbolic art and bead loom patterns. Students analyzed these pieces of art and learned how to identify the geometric elements within them. Using the smart board, students could view and explain symmetry, transformations, shapes and movement within the art forms. Great discussion and at times debate arose in specific pieces. Then students had an opportunity to design their own pattern and great a beaded piece of their own.
