Water First WorkshopToday our gr 7's had the opportunity to participate in a Gush Workshop. GUSH workshops encourage students to use inquiry, collaboration and problem-solving skills to complete a hands-on design challenge! With a focus on real-world First Nations water issues, the workshops encourage student creativity and awareness while covering expectations from the Intermediate Science curriculum.
Students enjoyed the workshop this afternoon. They learned about communities that struggle with fresh water access and even came up with some create problem solving to help with the problem. One of the most fun math projects yet! After a few weeks of learning formulas on surface area and practicing calculations, Copeland class went to work to design their own Tin Man Robots. Students used recycled materials to build a mini robot. They measured the surface area with the learned formulas from each shape. Once they had their total surface area, students were given that exact amount of tinfoil to wrap their robot. Students then reflected on the process and how successful their group was. I think they turned out great! well done folks. Check out the process: Lots of collaboration and teamwork was required for this project. The end results were great! Check out the awesome Bots below:
GoogleClassroom is a fantastic resource that allows students to comment on and share learning throughout the year. We will specifically using it more in our language program to write responses, posts and answer questions related to our learning. Parents may view this learning as well! I have no doubt these three will change the world! My heart explodes with their writing and speaking abilities. Congratulations to Ife Oluwatayo for winning the Grade 7 speech competition! So proud. Ife will now move on to regional competition. **UPDATE Ife did a FANTASTIC job at the regional competition. He was the youngest speaker there being the only grade 7 student. He delivered his speech with confidence and clarity. Well done Ife, we are super proud of you!! |
