Have you ever been so frustrated with something in your life that you just gave up? I think we can all relate to difficult challenges that make us think it would be best to take take the easy way out. Students listen to story and identify the crayon complains. Discuss the various "emotions the crayons are personifying in the story, for example Peach who is embarrassed. How would you solve the problem? What would you say or do to encourage them to continue through their struggle? In the next few weeks we will be talking about GROWTH MINDSET. Multiple Intelligence is a psychological theory that was developed by Harvard Professor Howard Gardner. Gardner believed people were smart in many different ways and not just in the standard math IQ intelligence measure. He developed Eight Intelligence's that people can possess skills and interest in. The eight intelligence's are:
Verbal Linguist: Word smart Mathematical Logical: Number smart Naturalist: Outdoors Smart Kinesthetic Smart: Body smart Interpersonal: People Smart Intra-personal: Emotional smart Musical: Rhythm smart Spatial Visual: Art smart The students completed two multiple intelligence surveys last week that targeted their specific interests, hobbies and characteristics. From there they calculated their dominate intelligence and researched to find out more about what this meant to their lives. Students also worked together in groups to create Multiple Intelligence Posters that represented some of the main components of their dominant intelligence. This morning the grade 7's looked back at what we know about the Terror Attacks that occurred September 11, 2001. We discussed as a class how and when we first heard about the attacks and how the news made us feel. We read an article (below) that detailed the importance of remembering and commemorating the many who lost their lives in these tragic events. The class generated some great discussion on why it is important to respect these people and for us to prepared and unified against future threats.
